Medical Sciences in Turkish Universities

General Information

This program includes scholarships for vocational schools, undergraduate, masters, PhD and specialty courses in medicine and dentistry. The Medical Sciences Scholarship Program is provided for the citizens of countries in the Balkans, Black Sea Region, Central Asia, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

Who can apply?
Candidates applying for the Medical Sciences Scholarship Program shall meet the following requirements:
1. Being a citizen of a country located in one of the regions mentioned above.
2. For vocational schools and undergraduate programs: Candidates who have graduated or are likely to graduate from an educational institution equivalent to that of Turkey’s in the present academic year- preferably from science-based high schools,
3. For masters and PhD programs: Candidates who have graduated or are likely to graduate from an educational institution equal to that of Turkey’s in the present academic year,
4. For specialty programs: Candidates who have already been placed into a university taking Examination For Specialty in Medicine / Dentistry (TUS/DUS) and the Equivalency Diploma Test (STS),
5. For sub-specialty: Candidates who have already been placed to a university through Examination For sub-specialty (YDUS) and Equivalency Diploma Test (STS),
6. Candidates for vocational schools and undergraduate programs have to have been born no earlier than 01.01.1991, 01.01.1982 (for master programs) and 01.01.1977 (for PhD programs),
7. Candidates who had not or have not been granted a scholarship in the vocational, undergraduate, graduate and specialty level he/she is applying for, by a Turkish government institution,
8. Candidates who are currently studying in a university or a vocational college in Turkey cannot apply for the same level,
9. Graduate applicants who have completed his/her undergraduate or master’s education in Turkey must submit a minimum score of at least 45 on the ALES (Academic Staff and Graduate Education Test conducted by OSYM) or its international equivalent exam deemed acceptable by the universities they are applying to.
10. Graduate candidates who choose the universities instructing in English must provide the language documents asked by the university that they choose.
11. Those who have at least 60 % points from one of the academic criteria (diploma grade, general average grades received until the last term, university entrance exam grade-if any, high school graduation exam / Baccalaureate grade-if any, international test score-if any, other academic assessment score)

What does this scholarship cover?
Scholarships provide the students studying in Turkey with wide opportunities. With the scholarship granted to you, you can matriculate at a University and utilize the health services of that University without making any payment. In addition, a specific amount of scholarship fee is put into your bank account every month. This amount will be enough to continue your education and enjoy the social facilities in Turkey freely. Meanwhile, you are provided with housing opportunities as well. Moreover, this scholarship does cover the Turkish language education provided for you before starting your University program and your round trip flight ticket from your country to Turkey.

A monthly payment (pocket money/allowance), accommodation support (rent or otherwise), tuition fees, costs of Turkish language training courses, general health insurance and specified travel expenses are all included.

Turkish Language Proficiency
Those who cannot provide the Turkish proficiency certificate will be subjected to Turkish language preparation course.

If the language of study in the department is a language other than Turkish, the scholarship holders will not be required to enroll into a Turkish language preparation course. However, it is required to present a Turkish proficiency certificate within two years after commencing their studies.

Application Procedures

Evaluation of Applications and Interview
The selection of candidates is carried out according to academic achievement and interview performance. In calculating the academic success, Academic Criteria Table (diploma grade, general average grades received until the last term, university entrance exam grade-if any, high school graduation exam / Baccalaureate grade-if any, international test score-if any, other academic assessment score) is taken into consideration as a criterion.

During the interviews, the applicants will be assessed according to the following criteria:
- The coherence between candidate’s academic background and program preferences,
- The extent of awareness regarding the importance for his/her country and for his/her career path, of getting an education in Turkey,
- A significant interest for social and cultural activities,
- A clear vision about promoting relations between Turkey and his/her own country.

Candidates are required to provide the original copies of the documents they submitted during the application process at the time of the interview.

Result Announcements
Results will be announced to the successful applicants via e-mail in August.
A letter of invitation and detailed information (student’s university, department etc.) are sent via e-mail to the candidates who are admitted for the scholarship program.

The students shall apply for a student visa at the nearest Turkish Embassies or Consulates with their invitation letter.

For vocational schools, undergraduate programs
- Copy of high school diploma or document indicating that the candidate is a high school senior student.
- Certified high school transcript (indicating courses taken and relevant grades of the candidate)

For master’s and doctorate programs
- A copy of an undergraduate/graduate diploma or document indicating that the candidate is an undergraduate/graduate senior student
- A certified undergraduate/graduate transcript (indicating the courses taken and the relevant grades of the candidate)

For speciality/sub-speciality programs in medicine/dentistry
- Results documents of TUS/DUS/ YDUS
